Our mission is to make consumer research more approachable and more powerful for brands around the world.
About The Role
We are looking for an individual who loves working with data and building systems. As with any role at Langston, a successful candidate will have an innate abundance of passion, tenacity, and curiosity, as well as a natural drive to work on a team and support the success of those around them.
This person will be responsible for contributing to all facets of our Research Operations team, which means they’ll personally execute data processing, survey programming, sampling operations, and many more functions that are critical to successful research engagements. They will empower themselves and team members to execute world-class research for our clients.
The Manager of Research Operations will occupy a unique position at the intersection of operations and quantitative (survey-based) research in which you will constantly toggle between human-centered research and data-centered execution. The role is an unusual blend of ‘people-thinking’ and ‘computer-thinking.’
The responsibilities for this position cover three primary areas:
1) Survey Operations
Survey programming in both homegrown and third-party survey platforms
Management of survey translations and translation partners
Survey sampling via third-party panel providers and aggregators, including management of census-representative balancing
Survey testing/QA
2) Data Processing and Analysis
Transforming raw survey data into aggregated data tables using a combination of in-house analysis software and third-party tools like Excel, SPSS, or Stata
Troubleshooting data anomalies in a forensic manner to identify root causes of processing or fielding errors
Construction of slide decks with connected charts, tables, and other visualizations based on underlying data tables from your analysis
3) Building Tools and Systems
Construction and documentation of processes and procedures that will be the foundation for growth and flawless execution of our Research Ops function at scale
Development of tools and templates to streamline Research Ops and reduce errors
Collaboration with Langston’s engineering team in the design, development, and testing of homegrown software specifically built to execute world-class research at scale
This role will require occasional travel team offsites, as well as visits to client locations in some cases.
Your Experience and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a business strategist with deep analytical skills. Specific qualifications include:
4+ years working in an operational role focused on data processing and analysis, with at least 2 of those years in the survey-based quantitative research field
Mastery of Excel and PowerPoint is required. Please do not apply for this role if you do not meet these two requirements.
Experience with SQL and/or Python is preferred.
Knowledge of SPSS, STATA, R, or other statistical package is a nice-to-have
Extraordinary attention to detail is a primary criteria for success in this role.
Forensic analysis skills and experience hunting for hard-to-find formula or data errors. A natural sense of when something is not right within a data file and a drive to get to the bottom of it.
Extremely high sense of personal responsibility for work quality and producing error-free outputs that others can safely and comfortably rely on.
Obsession with meeting deadlines, and a drive to achieve
Ability to distill core functions of a process or tool and transform them into requirements and/or a vision for custom tools/software
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Design expertise a plus
Unending appetite to learn new techniques, approaches, and research methodologies, paired with a high drive to achieve new professional milestones.
