About Langston

The Langston Co. is a global insights and strategy firm with a unique approach to consumer research. We call our research method “modular research” - and it’s built to make us more effective as researchers and strategists while giving our clients more power and knowledge about the entire field of consumer insights. Every person on our team plays a role in development, discovery, and refinement of this system. Our mission is to make consumer research more approachable and more powerful for brands around the world.

About The Role

We are looking for someone who is passionate about consumer behavior, deeply curious, and skilled in quantitative research methods to join our team as a Senior Quantitative Insights & Strategy Manager. Titles within the insights space change from company to company; this role might be comparable to Associate Director, Senior Strategist, or Senior Consultant at another firm.

At Langston, a Sr. Manager of Insights & Strategy assumes the role of “project lead” for individual client projects, meaning that this person bears a high degree of responsibility for the success of individual projects. This responsibility brings a high level of variety, excitement, and direct impact on our clients - both as an organization and as individual stakeholders. It also means that the role will be challenging and sometimes stressful. Someone who is a good fit for this role would have a high level of intrinsic drive, a desire to rise to challenging occasions, and an innate focus on personal and professional growth at every opportunity.

The Senior Quantitative Insights & Strategy Manager role stretches across four areas:

1) Data Analysis

As an organizational leader in quantitative insights, you will bring advanced analysis chops to the team. You’ll recognize when data isn’t right, guide others on how to approach analysis on any given project, and come up with creative ways to slice and dice data within the context of each client’s needs. You’ll be able to do this by understanding sampling dynamics, evaluating patterns within data, and guiding the analysis team on how to best approach data cuts and exploratory analysis. You’ll run regressions, variable reduction techniques (e.g., Factor Analysis), and other sophisticated analyses on a regular basis. If working in Excel and other data platforms doesn’t excite you, this role is probably not a great fit.

2) Project Management

Running a research project from start to finish requires many moving parts, and as Senior Quantitative Insights & Strategy Manager, you’ll oversee and own the entire process. You’ll work with vendors, partners, and Langston colleagues to ensure every part is organized and in place. As the designated Project Lead for your portfolio of projects, you will be responsible for many aspects of a project’s success, from timelines to meeting stated research objectives, communicating with internal and external stakeholders, and more.

3) Client Management

Communicating transparently and quickly, you’ll provide clients with support on an ongoing basis, ensuring their answers are addressed and their needs are met. This means a high degree of responsiveness and a natural drive to deliver excellent service and support in the face of high expectations and occasional time pressure.

4) Strategy & Insights Delivery

As research is coming together, you’ll think holistically about what it means and how insights can be leveraged to drive real business decisions and outcomes. This will require you to constantly toggle between “the trees” and “the forest”, balancing the realities of a client’s business with the potential impact of insights.

Equally important is how you communicate these insights, both on paper and in person. Langston leverages several mediums for building & communicating insights (e.g., PowerPoint, White Papers, and even video and audio.)

This role will require occasional travel team offsites, as well as visits to client locations in some cases.

Your Experience and Qualifications

We firmly believe that there is much more to someone than their resume. While we believe the ideal candidate will come from a consumer insights background, we warmly welcome non-insights professionals who believe they would be a good fit for this role.

  • The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled quantitative consumer insights researcher, project manager, and business strategist who meets the following experiences and qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience working with survey-based, consumer insights research

  • Mastery of Excel and PowerPoint is required.  Please do not apply for this role if you do not meet these two requirements

  • Knowledge of STATA, R, or other statistical package is preferred

  • Experience owning consumer insights & business strategy projects from start to finish

  • Experience executing a wide variety of quantitative research (e.g., brand tracking, customer journey mapping, conjoint analysis, segmentation, pricing, etc.)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Design expertise a plus

  • Ability to distill high-level research objectives and transform them into a research approach / project plan

  • Unending appetite to learn new techniques, approaches, and research methodologies

  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and obsession with meeting deadlines

  • Connecting insights to real business outcomes and strategy
